Bob Marley came into our rescue program on May 23, 2018. Bob Marley came into our rescue program from the Woodward County Sheriff's Office as a cruelty case along with 8 other horses. We spent many hours on location in Woodward County trying to save a horse that was down upon arrival. Finding a Veterinarian that would respond out in the field was extremely difficult. One Veterinarian stated that he could check on her the next morning but I refused to leave her there. We finally found a Veterinarian a little over an hour away that would come out and at least prep her for travel, while down, with fluids, etc. We had to call in another trailer, so that she could ride alone as we were prepared to load her whether she was standing or laying down. This sweet girl was not going to be left behind. She needed to see help arrived for her and her herd. Sadly, we lost that sweet mare shortly after arriving back home. Our Veterinarian met us here at midnight and we did all we could to save her, but sadly, her fight was done. But she knew she was safe and she nickered to her herd, where they responded back to her. At that moment, she left us. It breaks our hearts when we can't save one, but thankfully, her 7 remaining herd members made it out. Bob Marley is a Beautiful, Bay, Quarter Horse, Stud. Bob Marley is estimated to be 15 years of age. Bob Marley is emaciated, body score of a 1 with extremely long hooves and rain rott. All of the horses went about 2 weeks with limited access to water or anything edible. Bob Marley was extremely weak. We was bringing Bob Marley into the barn for examination when Bob Marley collapsed and started seizing. We thought we lost him right there. Thankfully, he came out of the seizure and seemed to be okay, until he tried to stand and once again he collapsed and started seizing. This was one of the most terrifying things I have had to witness. Bob Marley finally started to come back but we was afraid to allow him to get up. We gave him some time and got him up with our sling. We discovered his seizures were due to his sodium levels being extremely off, due to being dehydrated and re-hydrated prior to our arrival. We immediately rushing Bob Marley to OSU where they hospitalized him and slowly worked on getting his sodium levels back to normal. Thankfully, we caught all this in time and was able to save Bob Marley without any further complications. Bob Marley is a super sweet boy. He has such a wonderful personality and seems so thankful to be here. This handsome boy has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Bob Marley will be gelded before he will be eligible for adoption. We will update as he improves. Please consider making a donation towards Bob Marley's Rehabilitation.
